Let's talk cruising as it should be....

The Celtic Goodwill Raid has rapidly developed into a success story that, as it crosses seas and borders, brings together friends old and new, seasoned sailors with the less experienced and families with families, all sharing in their love of the sea.

It is unrivalled and unique, providing a ready made social experience with attractions and cultural events at destinations bordering the Irish Sea, the Channel, and the Atlantic coasts -  an experience of achievement, fun, and cultural adventure which is difficult to describe until you have been there, done it, and earned the “T” shirt.

There are years of Yachting and Motor Boating experience in every one of the Raid flotillas and the old hands are more then happy to share their skills and knowledge with relative new comers to our sport and pastime.

The Celtic Goodwill Raid continues to grow each year, and has become the leading International summer cruising event.  In the 2008 season, approaching 250 sailing and power craft will participate in the largest Own Boat Cruising Flotilla event in Europe. Open to all boats, there will be bags of fun, conviviality, companionship and new opportunities for those who want to cruise.  The Celtic Goodwill Raiders have been invited to participate as an organisation in the Brest 2008 International Maritime Festival in Brittany, where we will take an active part in the daily programme.

How does it work and what does it entail?

Generally the Goodwill Raid can be divided up into 9 day sections consisting of 2 weekends and the 5 days in between sailing in company. Rendez-vous times are set in a major port of call each weekend and midweek in a designated port. Skippers and Crews decide on their own routes, who they will sail in company with and the bays, creeks and beautiful harbours they will visit en route.

In most cases it is possible to link several Raids together to create a longer cruise to suit your own time frame and itinerary. You can join where you like and leave where you like. However, raids are sometimes restricted by the capacity of the ports of call.

Celtic festivals, maritime festivals, sea shanties, cockpit and pontoon parties, ceilidhs and impromptu get-togethers in our favourite major ports of call, are all the norm.

The Goodwill Raids are open to all...

The raid is open to all boats, sailing or motor, mono-hulls or multi-hulls, charter and sea school boats.
